Captain Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Carribean series) usually only does heroic acts when it best suits his interests
An Antihero or Antiheroine is a leading character in a story who, unlike a traditional hero, lacks conventional heroic qualities such as idealism, courage, and being morally good.
Description[]
Antiheroes are often characters who commit heroic acts or aid the hero, but for differing reasons. While not necessarily evil, they usually have a number of flaws that make them different from the traditional heroes of fiction and folklore - Antiheroes can be selfish, rude or even criminal in nature but will play the part of a hero under certain conditions: whether it be for money, fame, glory, vengeance or because they don't have a choice.
In fiction, the sporting antihero is not a team player, challenges officialdom and seeks financial gain over club loyalty, yet still acquires a large fan following by way of his/her actualization of the rebel archetype.
